Enterprises in Tainan City have excelled in promoting green procurement, earning public commendation from the Environmental Protection Administration.
The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) of the Executive Yuan, in its efforts to promote green consumption, held the "Green Procurement and Promotion of Green Consumption Outstanding Units Commendation Ceremony" at the International Conference Hall of National Taiwan University Hospital on March 1, 2022. Eight enterprises and units from Tainan City, including Uni-President Enterprises Corp., Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Fab 14, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Fab 14B, Taiwan Sigou Paper Industry Co., Ltd., Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Fab 6, Innolux Corporation, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Advanced Packaging Fab, and National University of Southern Taiwan, were awarded. Mayor Huang Wei-che expressed his hope for more corporate groups to embrace green procurement, contributing to the sustainable development of both businesses and the environment.
Nationally, a total of 86 units received commendation from the EPA. The eight recognized enterprises and units from Tainan City are Uni-President Enterprises Corp., Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Fab 14, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Fab 14B, Taiwan Sigou Paper Industry Co., Ltd., Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Fab 6, Innolux Corporation, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Advanced Packaging Fab, and National University of Southern Taiwan.
Mayor Huang Wei-che stated that the Tainan City Government has received the highest rating in government-led green procurement assessments for eight consecutive years. The city government's commitment to environmental protection serves as a guide for businesses to actively participate in and embrace green procurement. The "Green Procurement and Promotion of Green Consumption Outstanding Units Commendation Ceremony" by the EPA recognized eight enterprises and units from Tainan City, highlighting the recognition of businesses for their support and adoption of environmentally friendly products. It is believed that the procurement and use of eco-friendly products will become more widespread and popular in the future.
Last year, the Environmental Protection Bureau guided 283 private enterprises and groups to engage in green procurement, with a reported green procurement amount reaching NT$4.1 billion. Compared to the previous year's NT$3.2 billion, this marks a 28% growth.
Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau, Hsieh Shih-chieh, mentioned that implementing green procurement is not difficult. Despite the variety of products on the market, consumers can easily choose environmentally friendly options by checking for eco-labels, energy-saving labels, water-saving labels, green building materials, carbon footprint labels, and carbon reduction labels before making a purchase.
